Learner (7) killed, two seriously injured in alleged hit-and-run near school ground

The police have condemned any reckless driving especially speeding along streets which are in and around schools after three minors were knocked down in the Vuwani policing area on Friday.

LIMPOPO – It is alleged that three minors between the age of five and seven-years-old, were knocked by a speeding vehicle along Tshivhulana Road next to Tshivhulana Primary School, said Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“The Police were notified and upon arrival at the scene found the three victims still lying on the ground next to the road with serious injuries. The injured children were rushed to a nearby hospital, however, the 7-year-old victim was declared dead on arrival,” explained Ngoepe.

The deceased Vutomi Baloyi and the two survivors were identified as learners from Tshivhulana Primary School, Ngoepe added.

The cause of this incident is still not clear at this stage and Police investigation into the matter still continue.

It is still unclear whether the driver was arrested.

The law enforcement agencies and other relevant role players which include the local and school authorities, are urged to work together and apply the no-nonsense approach to any driver who continues driving recklessly and without consideration in and around the schools, They must be dealt with accordingly and without compromise, Concluded Ngoepe.
