PEC paves the way for provincial conference

The ANC provincial conference was rescheduled to 13 and 14 April at a Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting last weekend.

POLOKWANE – The term of office of the current PEC ends in February and preparations for the ninth Provincial Conference are well underway.

The PEC adopted a roadmap towards the provincial conference in November last year and there was a slight delay in the implementation of the roadmap which necessitated the revision of the dates.

An audit still needed to be done and all the regions, except for Waterberg, have concluded their pre-audit. The cut-off period for the membership audit remained 30 November 2017.

The Nelson Mandela Centenary celebrations were launched at the PEC meeting.

“The centenary celebrations are our way of reaffirming our commitment to the programme of rebuilding and renewing the ANC to the values of its forebears, as embodied in the life of service and selflessness demonstrated by President Nelson Mandela.

“Limpopo will in due course unveil its programme for the Nelson Mandela Centenary Celebrations,” said Aluwani Netsianda, Media Liaison Officer of the ANC.

Other issues discussed at the PEC was inter alia the establishment of a regional task team (RTT) for the Waterberg Region. This was in line with the decision of the PEC meeting held on 27 November where it was resolved to disband the Regional Executive Council (REC) of the Waterberg region in terms of Rule 19.1.9 of the ANC Constitution.

The PEC reaffirmed its view that the Waterberg REC had exceeded its term of office by more than two years. “The REC has over the extra two years failed to convene a regional conference, and all the structures of the REC had become dysfunctional,” Netsianda said.

The PEC deemed it important to engage in a process that will clarify the perception of Limpopo sending bogus delegates to the 54th National Conference held in December. Allegations will be cleared with each branch.

The PEC resolved to establish a team that will be led by the ANC Limpopo Veterans League to deal with this matter and all affected branches and delegates to the 54th National Conference must be interacted with by the said team, whose work must be concluded by mid March.

Their report, after being processed by the PEC, will be shared with ANC branches at the Provincial Conference.

The PEC meeting was followed by the ANC PEC Lekgotla from 12 to 13 February.

The deliberations and resolutions of the PEC Lekgotla will direct the work of both the ANC and ANC-run provincial government in the year 2018/19.
