Limpopo youth contractor lays solid foundation for his dreams

It came as no surprise when Ramkol Construction and Projects won the best emerging youth contractor as well as the best emerging youth contractor in the national subsidy market.

LIMPOPO – The company, founded and registered in 2010 by Rampete Rangata, won these prestigious awards during the 2017 Govan Mbeki Awards hosted by the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA).

“I entered the awards hosted by CoGHSTA last year which also went national. I, or rather my company, won the best emerging youth contractor on both levels and I feel honoured and proud of my teammates for their hard work, dedication and teamwork.

“This just goes to show that Ramkol Construction and Projects is able to hold as well as manage bigger projects that will in the end benefit the community of Limpopo and beyond. This was our first project and we did it,” he explained.

Having managed several construction projects, Rampete explains his love and passion for construction continues to grow.

“It all started after I left an internship programme I was doing some years back when I was offered an opportunity to manage a construction project in the Free State. From there on I never looked back as I used my experience and knowledge in the construction industry to start my own company. I started off with managing projects and also sub-contracts,” he explained.

The 30-year-old holds a qualification in development planning from the University of Limpopo. It was after he acquired the knowledge and skills of being in the construction industry that he applied for a project at CoGHSTA in 2015 and 2016 in which he was successful with a three-year contract permitting his team to build 110 units in Bochum, which they completed before the end of the contractual period.

Ramkol Construction and Projects founder, Rampete Rangata, with CoGHSTA MEC, Jerry Ndou, and the family that received a new house.

In the spirit of giving back and doing their bit, Ramkol Construction and Projects built a house for a family in Musina during the Imbizo period where CoGHSTA MEC, Jerry Ndou, identified a family of six who were at the time living in a one-room house. The MEC chose Ramkol Construction and Projects for this specific project as they were in the area working on another project.

“This was our Christmas gift to the family and we pushed to work as fast as we could to ensure the house was complete by 25 December. I hope other emerging construction companies, or already established and successful ones, will continue with such good deeds and spread the spirit of ubuntu,” he concluded.
