Alleged rhino poaching syndicate ‘dismantled’ during SAPS op

The intelligence-led joint operation, conducted in the Namakgale Policing areas outside Phalaborwa on Monday night, has resulted in the arrests of four suspected poachers, confirmed the police on Tuesday afternoon.

LIMPOPO –  This concerted effort was coordinated by members of the Phalaborwa Crime Intelligence jointly with National intervention Unit, said Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

During the operation two rhino horns and a VW Jetta was confiscated.

Ngoepe confirmed that the suspects (aged between 34 and 50) have since appeared before the Phalaborwa Magistrates Court on charges of illegal hunting and possession of a rhino horns and were remanded in custody until 21 February 2018.

Police investigations still continue, he concluded.
