Scopa slams department’s unlawful appointments

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture last Thursday had to explain to the standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) how many incidences of illegal appointments there were during a specified period in the 2016/17 financial year and who the officials are that were responsible for the appointments within the department.

POLOKWANE – The department was accused of having the lowest of professional standards and Scopa said it would not accept and condone the appointments, as the provincial government wanted to run a clean administration. Scopa wanted to know how the money was going to be recovered from the appointees.
