Rotary Club Polokwane restore dignity through wheelchair donation

The Rotary Club of Polokwane donated 10 wheelchairs to those in need on Saturday, 3 February.

POLOKWANE – The main aim for the donation, says organiser of the handover, Phuti Ragophala, was to reassure disable people that they are still part of the community.

“They need to come out of their homes to access fresh air, sunlight and be part of us. Besides that, to regain confidence, dignity, self-esteem and independence in movement,” she said.

The 10 wheelchairs traveled a long way to Polokwane after the club purchased them from the Rotary Club of Rushmoor in the United Kingdom.

“It is a long, time consuming process, as we buy the chairs from Rotary Club of Rushmoor in the United Kingdom who then send it to Rotary Club of Northcliff in Johannesburg and wee then get it from there,” President Chymie Naidoo explained.

Ragophala concluded by saying that she hoped the donation would change the beneficiaries lives for the better,” she said.
