Vigilance crucial to safety – CPF

Community Policing Forums (CPFs) in various areas have again called on residents to be vigilant, join the CPF in their area, and report any suspicious activity to police.

POLOKWANE -This comes after reports did the rounds on social media about alleged ‘hit squad’ targeting people in the city following two shootings during which one man was killed and another shooting where a woman was injured.

The CPF covers most every part in and around the city and consists of people from the communities who do regular patrols. Radio communication is also used to help connect people who may be in need with patrolling teams who can assist in emergencies.

They are calling on people to be aware of their surroundings at all times.

• When driving home, take a different route every so often.

• Make sure to record details of suspicious vehicles and people in your area and report them to the police.

• Report cases to the police for investigation.

• Make sure to close and lock gates and garage doors.

• Join a CPF in you area as they include neighbours who will be closer and faster than police to respond when there is a problem.

Know who to contact to get involved with the CPF in your area.

Provincial Police Spokesperson, Brig Molafela Mojapelo, said the CPF is and extended arm of the police and the people serving on the CPF receive special training to deal with certain situations. “For instance, they will arrive on a crime scene and secure it as well as possible eyewitnesses to help the police in their investigation. The CPF plays a vital role in breaking crime’s grip in different areas,” he said.
