Limpopo Police condemn acts of mob violence

This condemnation follows three separate incidents which occurred in the Jane Furse, Gilead and Vuwani Policing areas this week.

LIMPOPO – Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe reported: In the first incident two suspects were arrested in the Jane Furse Policing area outside Polokwane, after allegedly robbing a local restaurant.

“The two suspects (aged 30 and 32) were severely assaulted by local residents, before the police were notified”

During the arrest three cellphones, a toy gun and an undisclosed amount of money taken during the robbery was recovered. The suspects will appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court soon.

In the second incident 57 suspects (13 women and 42 men aged between 19 and 60) were arrested in the Gilead Policing area outside Mokopane, for public violence, malicious damage to property and interference with members of the police while performing their duties.

These arrests emanated from the incident where a group residents from Ga-Chere village allegedly attacked and broke windows of the Bakone Tribal Authority Offices in the Gilead Policing area outside Mokopane.

The motive behind this situation is believed to have originating from the allegations of dispute over the local land between two villages; Ga-Chere and Ga-Mushi.

The suspects will appear before Gilead Periodical Court on Monday.

In the third and last incident which occurred in the Vuwani Policing area outside Thohoyandou, an old man accused of murdering his neighbour, was brutally killed by an angry mob.

62-year-old Josia Mukwevho, from Lwamondo Tshitavha Village outside Thohoyandou, allegedly stabbed his neighbour after accusing her of practicing witchcraft.

Local residents mobilised, caught him and killed him using unknown objects.

The suspects are still unknown and there are no arrest as yet. Anyone with information about this incident, is urged to contact the 24-hour crime stop number on 0860010111, the crime line sms 32211 or the nearest Police Station.

The Provincial Commissioner LT. General Nneke Ledwaba has warned all perpetrators to refrain and stop this tendency abruptly, not so, they will be dealt with mercilessly as they are busy interfering with the spirit of community Policing in this Province.
