Newly established Mzansi AC hosts first AGM

Mzansi Athletics Club on Saturday, 9 December held its annual general meeting at the Dries Abrahamse Lapa in the Polokwane Game Reserve.

POLOKWANE -This event is a memorable one for this club as it marked the first of many.

“Today marks the first occasion where all our athletes are officially gathered together since our club was established earlier this year,” says Richard Bilisi Rambiyana, Chairperson of Mzansi AC.

Mzansi Athletics Club is excited about its future prospects as they celebrate their first annual general meeting.

Rambiyana says the establishment of Mzansi AC delivered essential transformation and development practice to the sport. He adds these developments will spark much-needed social cohesion and create a platform for all people in the community, in particular social runners who would like to join official clubs.

The club was formed, he explains, to bring change and introduce the fun factor into road running.

“It is a family club where our athletes are encouraged to join together with their partners and families. It is a club for everyone regardless of fitness level, race, culture, age or location. Everyone is welcome to join our club.”

He adds the plan is to build a club with the capacity to host local and provincial races within the next three years. Their executive committee, he says, is currently considering to stage a fun run event on 14 January with the purpose to commemorate the first anniversary of Mzansi AC.

“With the endorsement of our women athletes, Mzansi AC is set to host a 10 km and 21 km half marathon on 9 August 2018 to celebrate and recognise the women of Mzansi AC,” says Rambiyana.

At this first annual general meeting, a new committee was also elected for next year.

The newly executive committee of Mzansi AC are Lufuno Mudau (coach), Zwoda Maligana (secretary), Richard Rambiyana (Chairperson), additional members Nokuthula Modiba, Mulalo Machimana and Joyce Mokobi, Prudence Ndou, Dimakatso Mafona and Matodzi Makwarela. Tovhowani Maswime was absent.
