Operations at Olifantspoort Plant stopped due to quality of raw water, water shortages expected

All areas on the line from GaChuene, the city area and Seshego will be affected. High catchment areas in the city are already experiencing low water pressure or no water.

POLOKWANE – According to the Polokwane Municipality they received a notice from Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) this morning (Sunday) that the Olifantspoort Plant had to be shut off last night due to the quality of raw water from the river following heavy rains in the Lepelle area.

“According to the notice, the plant is just receiving mud and this will damage filters and other systems should extraction continue. The plant was operating at low capacity from yesterday (Saturday) and this has already affected reservoir levels drastically. The operation will only resume once the quality of raw water improves,” says the municipality

No water is currently being pumped from this plant to the city, therefore, all areas being supplied from Olifantspoort will be affected.

These include: All areas on the line from GaChuene, the city area and Seshego. High catchment areas in the city are already experiencing low water pressure or no water.

“Currently water is supplied from Ebenezer plant, however, the public is advised to use water sparingly during this period to maintain reservoir levels.

Water tankers have been deployed to all affected areas.”

Water issues including shortages to be reported on 0152902629/2376 for assistance.
