Mokopane landfill closed with immediate effect after fire
Residents should make use of a temporary landfill site with immediate effect after the Mokopane landfill caught fire late Wednesday afternoon.
MOKOPANE – The landfill site was visited by acting Municipal Manager, Andile Mashele, the fire brigade, municipal officials and Marcelle Maritz, Limpopo Leader of the Freedom Front Plus to investigate.
It was deemed the toxic gasses and smoke released by the fire posed a health and safety risk for residents which is why the landfill was closed immediately.
The temporary landfill site is located on the Maribashoek road just outside town. At the three-way stop at Obaru, turn left and drive approximately 1 km on the Maribashoek road where the entrance to the temporary landfill is located on the left.
