Amarok: Bakkie in a different class

In a bakkie-obsessed town such as Mokopane, where the leisure double cab is seen as a practical lifestyle choice and also a status symbol, the Volkswagen Amarok will always make waves.

MOKOPANE – The double cab is still one of South Africa’s biggest sellers and with Amarok Extreme 4 motion all-wheel drive, 8-speed automatic diesel transmission, it will be a favourite among many. Since the first gear is ready for coaching and tow work specifically, the Amarok does not require a low range transfer box. It’s any adventurer’s dream if you test its abilities in rough terrain. The third brake light doubles its purpose with a platform that shines a light on the loading bay and you can load any freight with ease in the dark.

Volkswagen made the interior design sophisticated, but still simple and clean with just enough controls at hand. With ergo-comfort seats, you cannot help, but to hit the long road to nowhere. Underneath the bonnet you will find the excellent 8-speed automatic transmission and the 4 motion permanent all-wheel drive system.

At the end of the test drive, Bosveld was really impressed, the silent diesel engine gives you the impression that you are driving a premium SUV. When you click into drive the Amarok pulls away eagerly and you know the Amarok really is a bakkie in a different league.
