One game, one chance says Stuart Baxter

Baxter spoke at a press briefing at the Fusion Boutique Hotel this afternoon ahead of Bafana Bafana's game against Senegal on Friday.

POLOKWANE – Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter says they have one game and one chance only to make it to the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia and they’re going to take it.

The national team arrived in Polokwane on Monday morning ahead of their must win rematch against Senegal on Friday, 11 November.

The match comes after FIFA ordered a rematch between South Africa and Senegal after the match referee of the initial match, was found guilty of match fixing.

Baxter says this camp has been the most chaotic so far as he is still missing players who are overseas, who are currently making their way to the city of stars.

He says that won’t deter the team though, with the squad ready to train at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The big question on all fans lips, however, is the availability of goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune who was recently injured during a domestic game.

Team doctor, Thulani Ngwenya says Khune was rushed to a hospital in Port Elizabeth and suffered a fracture to one of his facial bones.

“We are, as a team and technical staff, hopeful that he will be fit, but we first need to find out the extent of his fracture,” said Ngwenya.

Baxter says his health is their priority.

When asked what the team’s game plan for Friday will be, Baxter says they have one chance and one game to make it and they cannot go into the game with the same mindset as the last game.

His thoughts on fans who have given up on Bafana Bafana are simple though with Baxter asking “what about the fans who do support Bafana?”.

“I’m sure if we win, lose or draw there will be positive or negative comments, but we are going to give everything we’ve got,” he concluded.

Tickets are still on sale from Computicket at just R30 and fans are encouraged to come out in their numbers to support the team.
