Windy whirls through the fashion world

With more than two decades' experience in the fashion industry, Windy Thema knows what outfits will give her clients' self-confidence a big boost while ensuring they look great.

POLOKWANE – Windy operates her boutique from the Palm Centre in the Central Business District and has a flair for designing and making the perfect outfit to suit any occasion and personality.

“The clothes I design and make define and represent my client’s character and personality which is something I pride myself on. This knack makes me stand out above the competition,” she said.

With a passion for fashion, Windy furthered her studies in fashion design at Setlogelo Technikon and the Kirsten Academy of Fashion after school.

Windy Thema shows off some of her designs.

Originally from Soshanguve in Gauteng, she moved to Polokwane 20 years ago where she lives with her husband, Robby, and two sons, Mapheto and Charles.

Her advice for anyone interested in making a break into the fashion industry is to have patience and work hard to succeed.

“You must be able to accommodate and assist your clients in any way possible. As part of your service to your clients you must be able to advise them on what clothing will suit them and make suggestions if they do not know exactly what they are looking for.”

Windy loves spending her free time with her family and watching movies.

She has dressed several well-known individuals and celebrities from in and around the city and said it is an honour to see them on TV and in the newspaper wearing the clothes she designed and made for them.

“Contrary to popular belief, most celebrities are not divas at all, they are quite down to earth and they always show appreciation whenever I design clothes for them.”

One of the aspects she enjoys a lot about the fashion industry is the opportunity it gives her to meet new people and the constant-changing styles and colours.

“One of the challenges I have encountered over the years was when my client and I misunderstood each other over what they wanted.”
