[TAKE NOTE] Limpopo Taxi associations to march against impounding

Taxi drivers are marching from SABC park to the Office of the Premier as well as the Department of Transport to hand over a memorandum

POLOKWANE – Taxi associations from Sekhukhune and Jane Furse gathered at the SABC Park in Landros Mare Street, this morning, to march to the Office of the Premier and the Transport Department to demand answers.

This follows several taxis being impounded and fined for not having proper paperwork and not being road worthy.

Frans Kgasago from the Limpopo Taxi association told Review that there are drivers marching from the city and from outside the city, to protest against their vehicles being impounded.

Kgasago said some of the complaints stated in the include demanding the permits they are driving without, despite several failed attempts to get them from the Department; as well as wanting to know why vehicles from the associations are being targeted by traffic and other law enforcement agencies.

Provincial police spokesperson Capt. Seabi told Review that there had been reports but things are currently quiet.

“Police are on standby if things should turn violent,” he concluded.
