Police make major breakthrough with recovery of MTN batteries worth R75 000

A suspect (33) was arrested as is due to appear in the Modimolle Magistrate's Court soon

LIMPOPO -A 33-year-old suspect was arrested and 15 high voltage MTN batteries estimated to the value of R75 000 recovered after police interpreted a bus and trailer along the N1, says the police.

The Modimolle Police were following up on a tip-off received about this illegal activity and stopped the bus next to the Kranskop tollgate on Wednesday and requested the driver and his co-driver to open the trailer, said Brigadier Motlafela Majapelo.

“The trailer was searched and batteries, wrapped in black plastic bags, were found inside. All the batteries had their tracker devises removed,” he added.

Mojapelo confirmed that the value of the batteries are estimated to the value of R75 000.00 and have been positively identified by MTN officials.

The bus was travelling from Johannesburg to Malawi.

The suspect will appear before the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of possession of suspected stolen properties.
