Victor: a media mogul in the making
A young photographer with an eye for beauty, Victor Owoade is the embodiment of the phrase hard work paves the way to success.
POLOKWANE – The 24-year-old is originally from Nigeria and is currently based in Polokwane. He is a photographer, event promoter and public relations manager for Exalted Praise band.
He is also a member of Start Promotions; a company that helps promote upcoming talented artists. Victor is working towards a BA in culture and arts through Unisa while also trying to build his media empire one step at a time.
He describes himself as a hardworking guy who loves helping people, even if he’s not getting anything in return.
“I love the entertainment industry because it is so amazing how photography or videography can change one’s perspective. My fascination started when I was 11 years old. I attended a church called Manna Tabernacle of Witness and I joined the media team which is where it all began.” Victor has worked with the likes of Del Peace Badejo, Poetic Dee, Exalted Praise and Mahlatze Vokal Matjie. He explains one of the challenges he faces is not having all the equipment he needs due to financial constraints as it restricts the type of projects he can take on.
“There are many people out there who call themselves photographers or sound engineers but don’t know how to use the camera properly, yet they get sponsored because they have connections,” he laments.
Seeing the smile on a client’s face after the work is done, however, makes the daily struggle worth for him. “One of the things which aids my growth as a photographer is my willingness to accept constructive criticism. If you don’t take a step to make something out of your life, no one will help you. There are some people out there who will look down on you when you try to make something of yourself and they will try to bring you down. Don’t give them the satisfaction; it won’t be easy when you start but don’t give up, just let your passion drive you to where you want to be.”
