Two friends shot at, one killed other seriously injured

The two friends were walking home from a local church meeting when the shooting occurred

LIMPOPO – The police are looking for the suspects who opened fire on two friends while they were walking home from a prayer session at a local church in Khakhanwa village, Thohoyandou early on Sunday morning.

According to a statement issued by Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, both men were shot and seriously injured after they met the unknown armed suspects who opened fire on them at around 04:00 that morning.

“Shadrack Livhuwani Mathugana (30) was shot and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital and his 25-year-old friend was seriously wounded and is still recuperating.”

The motive behind this incident is not clear at this stage but police investigations will tell, he added.

The police urge anyone with information which can lead to the arrest of the suspects in this matter, to contact their nearest police station. Alternatively they can contact the 24-hour crime stop number on 0860010111 or the crime line sms 32211.

Meanwhile in Lephalale a 32-year-old man was arrested for the brutal killing of his girlfriend, after her body was found in an open field over the weekend.

It is alleged that the body of the deceased, Catherine Mokobe (34), was found in a state of decomposition near Shongwane number 1 village outside Lephalale.

The motive behind this incident is unknown but police investigations continue.

The suspect will appear before the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court today (Monday) on a charge of murder.
