Westenburg learners excel at maths competition

Westenburg Secondary School learners recently took part in an in house maths competition.

POLOKWANE – Not many learners would say that maths is their favourite subject at school but for Westenburg Secondary School learners, maths is as easy as Pi.

Review spoke to the top four best performers to find out their thoughts on the competition.

Nyudu Malaika said that although she was very nervous to take part in the competition, she was amazed at how well she did. “When found out that I received third position in the competition, out of all the other learners, I felt very proud and amazed at the same time and I just want to thank Mr Nong for encouraging us and telling us to never give up,” she said.

Kgaugelo Moselane who obtained fourth position out of all 290 learners who took part in the mathematics competition, said that she never thought that she will even make it to the second round but, “Sir. Nong kept on motivating me and encouraging me to never give-up and to always check double check my answers before I submit. Because of him, I know the best side of Mathematics now and I enjoy it,” she explained.

Mathews Baloyi who came in second, said he could not believe that he got second position out of all the 290 learners whom he was competition against. He said that he feels blessed and proud of his achievement and he advises fellow learners to never give-up and keep working hard to ensure that they achieve the best results.

Moreblessing Sithole placed first and said it takes a lot of hard work and believing that they can achieve anything that they set their minds to as she set her mind to getting that position one and she got it.
