Andile Mashele is a man of action

MOKOPANE – Mashele says his goals are set and his tasks will not be without challenges.

“The vacant positions in top structures in the municpality have to be filled, as soon as possible as well as all other vacant positions. All positions will be filled with qualified and capable employees.

“The municipality will have the ability to function if qualified people are appointed. When there is a lack of leadership, there is a space of uncertainty and individuals will turn to deprive resources and there will be no credible reports or data,” he said.

According to Mashele, he will drive the culture of compliance in a tight serving space. “All services will be delivered in the most efficient way. The revenue collection is a challenge and the valuation roll of rates and taxes will be assessed. The municipality will look at the infrastructure and resources will be spent efficiently.

“We are fortunate to be located on an economic route that connects the north and the south. We reside in a town with great potential, but only if we can manage to provide quality infrastructure.

“We need to improve and involve the community which will contribute to the growth of the town.

“Collectively we can do a lot more, we have municipal staff and leaders who can define the success of the town and who need the community’s support and patience. Contrary to what is reported I have great confidence in the mayor.”

Mashele grew up in Elim, a small town near Thohoyandou, where he also matriculated. “After school I completed my accouting science degree at Unisa. Thereafter I also completed my post-graduate qualification in tax satiation, problem and strategic tax.”

Mashele started his career at the South African Revenue Services (Sars) as and auditor until he was recruited by a consulting firm. “I left this firm and enrolled for a post-graduation degree in business administration at the Duram University in Newcastle, north east England. I returned to South Africa and was employed by Eskom as a Project Finance Director at Medupi.”

CoGHSTA MEC recruited Mashele when the Mkondo Municipality was placed under administration as the Chief Finance Officer to bring stability at the municipality.

“After my work was done at Mkondo Municipality, I was recruited by Treasury as the Chief Director Transveral Supply Chain where I worked until now.” Mashele said his position as the Acting Municipal Manager came after the council empowered the Mayor, Andrina Matsemela to make a written submission to the office of CoGHSTA MEC to request secondment.
