Cache of ‘military’ explosives seized at Louis Trichardt shop, suspect granted bail

A 46-year-old suspect is expected to reappear in court in November

LIMPOPO – A 46-year-old man arrested for possession of alleged military grade explosives and ammunition on 31 August appeared before the Makhado Magistrate Court and was granted bail of R5 000.

The suspect faces charges of faces charges of unlawful possession of alleged military explosives and ammunition and is set to reappear before the court on 3 November 2017.


LIMPOPO – A 46-year-old suspect found in possession of alleged military grade explosives and ammunition was arrested by Limpopo Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Unit members on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by Hawks Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke, the members followed up on a tip-off received about explosives being kept at the said suspects business premises.

“An operation was effected and members seized five trip flare, a rifle grenade, two smoke generators, three green signal cartridges, three red signal cartridges, one R1 magazine and 552 rounds of R5 ammunition,” he confirmed.

The suspect appeared in the Makhado Magistrate Court today and was remanded in custody until 5 September for a formal bail application.”

He faces charges of faces charges of unlawful possession of alleged military explosives and ammunition, he concluded.


LIMPOPO – According to Hawks Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke the operation was focused on a spares shop in Louis Trichardt.

“During the search we recovered 5 trip flares, 1 rifle grenade, 3 green signal cartridges, 3 red signal cartridges, R1 magazine and R5 ammunition,” he says.

The suspect will appear in the Makhado Magistrate’s Court on charges of unlawful possession of explosives and ammunition.
