Soccer scouts coming to Polokwane in search of next female soccer star

SAFA (South African Footballs Association) will be hosting a talent scout programme for female footballers on Saturday, 19 August at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex's rugby fields.

POLOKWANE – Soccer has always been deemed as a male dominated sport or career, however women are constantly breaking these stereotypes by proving their abilities and capabilities in the sport. Phenomenal South African women in soccer such as Noko Alice Matlou and Jacobeth Makama are proof that indeed there is nothing that women cannot do.

The programme according to the Provincial secretary of SAFA, Patrick Seema, is aimed at identifying raw soccer talent in young females between the ages of 17 years and 20-years-old. “This programme is aimed at identifying raw talent in young women as early as possible so that we can groom them and prepare them to compete on a national and hopefully international level. We are looking at creating phenomenal women in this male dominated industry of soccer and break the stereotypes by closing the gaps that women are not afforded equal opportunities in this industry of soccer,” he said.

All young woman who have a love for sport and are interested in pursuing a career in soccer are encouraged to attend this programme. Participants are advised to bring along a copy of their birth certificates, passports and or ID’s and also dress accordingly as they will be required to show their individual talents in the sport.

The identified candidates will be trained and prepped to compete with other female players from other clubs to prove their worth and show their capabilities.
