Model helps break the silence

Tebogo Nkoana is an editorial model with a compassionate heart who is always willing to help those in need wherever she can.

POLOKWANE – This talented 24-year-old human resources graduate, is the founder of the Miss Teen Foundation and the senior associate blogger for The Pen Corporate magazine.

“I always wanted to be a model but my parents wouldn’t allow me to be a model because they thought it would negatively affect my schoolwork so I had to complete my studies first,” she shares.

She began modelling in 2014 and entered her first pageants the same year even though she didn’t manage to win any titles during her first year.

“The first pageant I entered was the Miss Youth and I made it to the top five which was an accomplishment for me as it was a good start,” she smiles.

In her second year of modelling, Tebogo moved into the editorial field where she still is today. She has walked the runway at the Limpopo Inspired Fashion Show and she has also done the 67 models for Mandela Day, Polokwane Fashion Show and the Tshwane Fashion Festival. She passed the auditions but due to financial constraints she couldn’t compete. “I only do fashion shows and I must travel around, which can be costly as well. At first my family didn’t support my modelling because they said it was a waste of time but they are slowly coming around,” Tebogo added.

She began the Miss Teen Foundation this year with the slogan, Loving is Caring. The foundation is about raising awareness on social issues that affect the youth.

“I am currently working on an upcoming event, Break Your Silence, with Kgaugelo Mohlala and it’s coming up on 4 September at Pits Lodge.

Sharing what she has learnt since she started chasing her dreams, she said the most valuable lesson so far it learning to be patient and accommodating. “I am inspired by helping people as I am compassionate and find pleasure in making people happy.”

Tebogo thanks her mentors Cavin van Biljon and William Thathana, and especially her mother for not giving up on her, “Dreams do come true eventually but you must work hard.”
