POLOKWANE – Donating blood is something that can save many lives, yet it is something people are reluctant to do for various reasons such as being afraid of needles.

Review visited Capricorn High School on Thursday, 3 August during a blood drive at the school to speak with the learners to find out how much they know about the importance donating blood and if it was their first time donating blood.

Thoriso Seleme (Gr 11) is also a first-time blood donor and says donating blood isn’t as scary as she thought. “it is a quick and painless process and it benefits the donor and recipient in various ways.”
Karabo Kgadimyane (Gr 12) says this was the first time he donated blood but he would do it again. “I have always read and heard about people donating blood but I’ve never thought of donating blood myself. I feel honoured and humbled because I learnt my blood will actually help to save someone’s life.”
Lebogang Setwaba (Gr 12) says she has donated blood before and will continue to do so for as long as she can. “Donating blood is about more than just giving back to the community, it is about saving lives.”
Kwena Hlahla (Gr 11) is donating blood for the fourth time and says she is happy to help give back to the community and helping to save lives. “My blood type is in high demand and used mostly in emergencies such as accidents. I will continue to donate blood as long as I can because accidents happen all the time which means my blood type must always be available to those who may need it.”
Kutsaka Nkuna, the school’s sports coordinator, steps up to lead by example as he donates blood. He says blood is the source of life and many people out there need blood desperately so he is just doing his bit to help save lives.
