Sanitation interferes with learning

Learners in Seshego were recently given sanitation packs as donations by schools in Polokwane.

POLOKWANE – When it comes to the importance of learners going to school, there are several issues that contribute to learners not being able to be in the school. This is an issue that many higher grade learners face on a daily basis.

The issue of sanitation and lack thereof, in schools,  was raised by the Pietersburg Circuit manager Biddy Ratale.

She spoke to local learners in Seshego who were some of the lower performing schools in the Pietersburg Circuit. She said that sanitation was one of the biggest reasons that learners missed school days.

“Learners, boys and girls, need to feel good about themselves and when they are unable to look after their own hygiene, in cases where they do not have soap for instance, they miss school days and that interferes with their learning,” she said.

She said that the circuit will be looking into a program that they can run throughout the year, to help collect donations to help learners in need get the sanitation products they need to feel confident when coming to school.
