Susan grabs opportunity with both hands

She is a self-proclaimed super woman who believes she can accomplish anything she sets out to do, and this is one of the reasons why Susan le Roux entered the Mrs Polokwane competition.

POLOKWANE – “I think I can do everything I put my mind to and I am very optimistic. I might get tired half way through, but I never give up,” she says.

Susan says her husband of three years has been very supportive of her endeavour to win the title, stating it has brought out a whole new side of him.

“I would not have been able to do this if it was not for my husband. He supports me and he is putting in a lot of hard work for my events.”

She explains that as a teenager, she became increasingly frustrated with the lack of advancement in sanitary products for women. “I could not believe that in this time and age, there was no alternative for sanitary pads and tampons. I came across the menstrual cup and immediately ordered one for myself. I was so impressed I wanted to tell every other woman about it.”

That’s when she and a friend, Kirsty Cawood, teamed up with Mrs Polokwane 2017 title holder, Irene Schempers, who hosts The Pink Tea Cup event to provide menstrual cups to young girls and women who cannot afford them.

“I had it in my heart for a long time to do charity work involving the cups and when the opportunity came to take part in Mrs Polokwane, I grabbed it with both hands. With Mrs Polokwane, I have support for my fundraising. This is the first time I am involved in charity work. So far it has been a lot of hard work and I constantly need to remind myself that I am not doing it for myself, but for other people.”

Her first event was a Family Fun run on Sunday, 23 July.

“It was awesome, I never had to organise such a big event and I learned so much. The other finalists are wonderful in supporting each other. Everyone is doing it for the right reasons,” she concludes.
