Miss Winter Mokopane Queen crowned

Miss Winter Mokopane is an annual winter pageant hosted by a non-profit organisation which creates awareness of pandemic proportions (Aids).

MOKOPANE – APP-AIDS held their third annual Miss Winter Mokopane 2017/18 at the Mokopane Hotel on Saturday, where eight beautiful contestants competed on the runway to see who would be crowned the next Miss Winter Mokopane Queen.

Miss Winter Mokopane is an annual winter pageant hosted by a non-profit organisation which creates awareness of pandemic proportions (Aids). Their aim is to find a person who will work with them as their ambassador, one who will represent them as an organisation and fulfill the duties given to them.

At the end of the pageant Nadia Barnard was crowned the new Miss Winter Mokopane 2017/18, Saloume Mochaki was crowned first princess and Maite Machaka was crowned second princess.

Nadia fell in love with modelling at the age of 15 and is passionate about modelling.

She says the day of the Miss Winter Mokopane pageant was magnificent as she met a lot of loving people and it was an honour for her to meet Mrs South Africa finalist 2017, Refilwe Mogale.

As Miss Winter Mokopane 2017/18, Nadia is excited about the journey that has just started for her and is proud of herself and feels she can bring change and make a difference in a lot of people’s lives.

She says it takes courage, dedication and confidence to reach one’s goals.

The journey for the winners started in June when they had to carry out various tasks to be judged on their abilities to represent the organisation. On the morning of the pageant the models had to undergo the penultimate pre-judging session with judges Refilwe Mogale (Mrs South Africa Finalist 2017), Khama Baloyi (Mr Golden Stars 2016 first prince), Lowiza Tjale (Miss Sugar 2015/16) and Tshegofatso Masimini (Miss SPCA 2015).

Chairperson of APP-AIDS, Jacob Lebelo says his team has done a great job in making the pageant a success.

“There were a few challenges, but we managed to achieve a really successful pageant” he said.

He thanks Maxi’s Mokopane for their continued support, sponsorship and generosity and congratulates all the winners and hopes that next year’s pageant will be even bigger and better.
