Greener Tidings crowned best garden centre in the country

Lizzy Altenroxel proves that putting effort into your passion yields results.

POLOKWANE – She is the owner of Greener Tidings, a nursery in the city recently won the platinum award at the SANA Convention, crowning it the best garden centre in the country. Her success, she explained, depends on the passion she and her employees put into their business.

“From a young age it has always been a passion of mine to create a place where people can feel at home with others who can give them advice to turn their own gardens into a sanctuary. This is what led to the inspiration behind Greener Tidings,” she said. Being a successful woman in the business world, she added, takes hard work and most of all a passion for the people to whom you provide a service.

When she is not at the nursery interacting with customers, Lizzy loves spending time with her family.

“Running a business like mine means everyone is like family and you must share the good and the bad with your employees as you work,” she advised.

Her advice to others considering a career as a botanist is that, first of all, it takes a passion for the science. It also takes a lot of hard work as well as understanding that learning is something which never stops.

“I learn new things every day so it is the type of work which never gets boring. The feedback I have received from customers is what motivates me even more, as they tell me how much they have learned and what a good experience they had at the centre.”

Her plans for the future is to expand Greener Tidings and to add a coffee shop which will create a more homely atmosphere.

Lizzy’s advice for gardeners is plant a garden which they will have time for and which will suit their lifestyle.
