No casualties after bus catches fire

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the damage to the bus is still being assessed - Polokwane Great North Transport Marketing and Communications Manager

POLOKWANE – The fire that broke out on one of the Great North Transport buses is nothing to worry about, says Polokwane Great North Transport Marketing and Communications Manager.
A fire reportedly started at the front of a moving bus yesterday evening, Monday, 29 May on the corner of Magazyn and Jorrisen streets. Passengers reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the front of the bus. The bus driver pulled over and brought the bus to a stop while passengers broke open the emergency exit doors and windows and exited the bus.

Emergency exits of the Great North Bus lay on the ground as passengers broke them open and got out of the bus safely.

No injuries were reported.
One of the passengers spoke to Review.
“I was looking outside the window when I saw the smoke from the front of the bus and then it turned into flames. I could not believe that this was happening, then passengers started screaming, breaking the emergency windows,” Lillian Mahepa explained.

The inside of the bus was damaged by the fire.

The fire department and police were on the scene within minutes and the fire was quickly extinguished. All the passengers made it out of the bus and watched the event unfold from the pavement.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the damage to the bus is still being assessed.

A Great North Transport bus caught fire on Monday, 29 May causing great damage but thankfully, no injuries were reported.
