POLOKWANE – As part of the operations undertaken by these units, leads from community members are followed up on. Depending on the validity of the information and the type of crime, relevant units are deployed to the relevant areas to bring criminals to book.
In Mankweng outside Polokwane, five highly dangerous criminals aged between 21 and 31 who were accused of terrorising the community in the area were apprehended and the following was recovered:
• Cash
• Airtime
• Cigarettes
• An Opel Corsa.
LT. Col. Moatshe Ngoepe said these suspects are connected to more than 10 cases of carjacking and armed robberies and will appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court soon.
During an operation that ran until this morning (Tuesday), a total of 164 suspects aged between 19 and 52 were arrested for various offences ranging from burglary, armed robbery ,possession of dagga and stolen property.
Among the items recovered was a number of firearms, cell phones, copper, cars, gas bottles, electrical appliances, dagga, a computer and liquor.
“This is an Intelligence-Driven Joint-Operation which is conducted in various ways which covered the crime in areas such as Mankweng, Dennilton, Mecklenburg, Lephalale, Lestitele, Makhado, Vuwani, Mokopane, Seshego, Tzaneen, Giyani, Thohoyandou and Burgersfort,” Ngoepe said.
These suspects will appear before various Magistrate Courts soon.
Police investigations are ongoing.
