Don’t panic! kidnapping message is a hoax
A message on social media which is currently doing the rounds has stirred up a panic in the city
POLOKWANE – The management of Mall of the North this week warned about a kidnapping message currently circulating on social media.
The message reads:
“Alert!! Attention everyone there are people who are busy kidnapping girls/woman these people have been promised an estimated amount of R350 000 for every ten girls they kidnap. About 150 females are missing in Limpopo. These people have already started at places such as Mall of The North. They come to you as people seeking for help. Remember to avoid walking alone by all means. Please pass this message on and Save As many Females As You Can. God bless You.”This messages are being forwarded by the public in aid to warn as many people as possible.
Review spoke to Sumari de Ridder, General Manager of Mall of the North, who said the message is untrue on several levels.
“We had no reports of human trafficking at Mall of the North and we cannot confirm this message.”
Capt Mamphaswa Seabi also confirmed that no cases of human trafficking had been made recently. He did however, say, people should still be vigilant.
“Even though there are no reported cases, we urge people to be on the lookout for things that are not right. If a person comes to you and promise you something that is too good to be true, then most likely it is too good. Do not fall for this trick. Also, keep your children safe and know where they are at all times.”
