Prizes for top performers

The top academic performers of Flora Park Comprehensive High School (FCHS) were awarded with special name badges and cash prizes on Monday.

POLOKWANE – These awards aim to encourage learners to do their best academically in order to build better futures for themselves while enjoying the fruits of their labour with bragging rights and spending money.

FCHS Grade Guardian, Cecelia Sarah Mabunda, said these awards will also give the Gr 12 learners a morale boost and motivation to work hard for the upcoming trial exams.

“We aim for a 100% matric pass rate this year with all our learners hopefully achieving a bachelor pass. I believe these awards will motivate those learners who did not receive prizes to work harder so they can have their name among the top achievers as well,” she said.

The Principal, Joseph Ntsiene Masekela, encouraged the learners to work even harder so they can excel in their studies.

“We host these award ceremonies each term to keep up a momentum of good academic achievement throughout the year and encouraging the learners to do their best,” he explained.

The Deputy Principal, James Rikhotso, shared these sentiments and added: “These awards will help to ensure that FCHS is counted as one of the best high schools in the city. We hope the parents of these learners become motivated and encouraged to be hands-on with their children’s studies and education.”

Among the attendees at the ceremony was the Curriculum Award Committee Members of the school, Ndivhudzannyi Sybil Mpephu, and Lehumo Semenya (HOD), who said the awards are a positive contribution to the overall performance of the school.

“We see the learners’ grades improve each term which means the learners are motivated to work hard to receive these awards,” Mpephu said.

The top performing learners received R150 vouchers for the best performer, R100 for the second best, and R50 for the other top performers. Along with these vouchers, the learners received gold and silver best performer titled badges.
