Clean-up operation at community clinic

The community of Seshego Zone 1 along with the EFF began the volunteer cleanup operation on 27 April to assist the Department of Health to open the clinic sooner.

POLOKWANE – With the aim of speeding up the process of reopening the clinic which will help residents to get healthcare at a nearby facility, the community has taken it upon themselves to start a clean-up operation.

The community of Seshego Zone 1 along with the EFF began the volunteer cleanup operation on 27 April to assist the Department of Health to open the clinic sooner.

EFF Spokesperson, Mashapa Sesera, said the sooner the clinic can be up and running, the sooner residents will have access to faster and closer medical care.

The basins and toilets inside the clinic are in disrepair and no longer functional.

“When the clinic reopens residents will no longer need to travel to Seshego Hospital to wait in long queues for medical assistance which will help residents get assistance faster as the clinic will also help to make the queues at the hospital shorter,” Sesera said.

He added the clinic was in a state of disrepair and neglect and if the community did not stand up and work together for what will benefit them, it would only delay the process.

Several documents are strewn around in the clinic.

The community discussed everyone’s roles with the cleanup operation of both the inside and the outside of the clinic, vowing to get it done as soon as possible.

Department of Health Spokesperson, Derick Kganyago, said the department was not aware of the cleanup operation but praised the community for taking the initiative to clean the clinic.

He said the work the community has done is an example of good leadership and should inspire others to take initiative to better their communities.

Kganyago added the department will notify the community on what steps to take after the cleaning process had been finalised.
