Thobela FM bags 2 dazzling awards for morning drive

Mosh Matsena, Thobela FM Station Manager, said the station felt highly honoured to have received not one, but two awards.

LIMPOPO – Thobela FM congratulated Nkgadimeng Kekana, for winning the Best Breakfast Show Presenter award, as well as the entire Breakfast team for winning the Community Project award through the Ex-Convict Empowerment feature, at the recent Liberty Radio Awards.

SABC Limpopo Provincial General Manager (PGM), Tshamano Makuya, congratulated Thobela FM, in particular the Ditlalemeso breakfast team, who were named winners at the Liberty Radio awards, previously well-known as the MTN Radio awards.

The awards took place on Saturday, 22 April at the Sandton Convention Centre in Gauteng and Thobela FM were proud to have scooped the two awards for their morning drive show.

Mukuya said the province was indeed very proud of their achievement, thanking the team and the entire station for flying Limpopo’s SABC flag high.

The event recognised Kekana, who co-presents the station’s Morning Breakfast Show with Sebasa Mogale, produced by Alpheus Mailula DJ Boeli, on winning the Best Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) Breakfast presenter award. The team walked away with Best Community Project award.

Matsena said the achievement is even more appreciated because it assists the station with self-evaluation and assessment.

“I want to congratulate the morning drive team for their achievements, especially Kekana, who is a relative newcomer in PBS, coming from a community station.

We took a chance when we put her on this show but she has never taken the position for granted, instead she has continued to work hard. I’m proud of her.

I also want to congratulate and encourage all the other nominees from the station, since that in itself is an indication that they are doing something right; actually they are the best. I’m also really honoured to be part of this winning station and to have such a dedicated and hardworking team,” she said.

According to the Liberty Radio awards, it aims to present a credible, well-judged transparent programme that promotes and recognises excellence in radio, with the objective to ensure that radio remains one of South Africa’s foremost media choices.

Matsena says the purpose of the awards are to reward those individuals and organisations who combine talent, hard work and skill to ensure that their listeners are compelled.

“We make sure we secure the future of the radio industry by rewarding excellence and motivating the constant and consistent raising of standards,” she added.
