One killed during ‘mob violence’ in downtown Polokwane
The police have launched a manhunt for a unknown group of people responsible for the attack and murder of a 35-year-old man today (Thursday).
POLOKWANE – According to a statement issued by Police SPokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the attack happened between 12:00 and 15:00.
“It is alleged that a group of men accosted the man next to the taxi rank on the corner of Buite and Devenish Street, where they stripped him naked and assaulted him using sticks and stones,” he said.
He died as a result of the beating, added Ngoepe.
The motive behind the incident is still unknown. No arrests have been made as yet and police investigations continue.

According to reports the situation is under control but residents are warned to avoid the area.

POLOKWANE – Motorists are once again urged to avoid the area of Nelson Mandela Drive between Nikkel and Devenish, according to reports on social media.
According to the report passing vehicles are being stoned and a vehicle was set alight.
Department of Transport Spokesperson, Joshua Kwapa says the roads in the area have been closed as a result of mob violence and motorists are urged to use alternative routes and are advised to avoid the area.
