Shootout ensues after cash in transit heist fails in Mokopane

Police received a tip off from community members who noticed a suspicious car in the area.

POLOKWANE – The group of armed suspects (aged 26-44) were enroute to rob a security cash in transit vehicle.

Police spokesperson Lt Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe says police reacted swiftly and pulled over a White Ford Ranger. A shoot out ensued between the police and the suspects in which two suspects were killed and one was seriously injured.

“The other two suspects were arrested without injuries,” says Ngoepe.

The following were recovered:
– An R5 Rifle
– Two 9mm pistols
– One Ford Ranger hijacked in Westenburg outside Polokwane.

Ngoepe says the police are still determining where the suspects obtained the firearm as investigations are still unfolding.

“These suspects will appear before the Mokopane Magistrate Court on Monday,” he said.

The Provincial Commissioner LT. General Nneke Ledwaba commended the quick reaction by SAPS members which led to this major breakthrough.

The General also warned all criminals that their days are numbered unless they refrain from any criminal acts, especially these types of violent crimes.
