 Man sentenced to five life sentences in Polokwane High Court

Matlou, who was described as a notorious and dangerous criminal terrorised his community by targeting young children for almost four years

POLOKWANE – A 23-year-old man, Freedom Matlou, from Spook Park outside Polokwane, was recently sentenced to a lengthy jail term by the Polokwane High Court.

Matlou was sentenced to five life sentences plus 12 years and six months imprisonment for the following ten criminal offences:
– Five life imprisonment sentences for five rape cases.
– Ten years imprisonment for two cases of kidnapping.
– Two years imprisonment for house breaking and theft.
– Six months imprisonment for malicious damage to property.

Police spokesperson LT Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the accused was terrorising the communities of Makgofe, Mmotong wa Perekisi and Spook Park Villages in the Seshego Policing area outside Polokwane between 2012 and 2016.

“He would attack young children between the ages of three and 16 years old while they were on the way to and from school. He would then threaten them with a knife, drug them and take them to his home where he raped them and later rob them of their posessions,” explained Ngoepe

Provincial Police Commissioner, LT. General Nneke Ledwaba has welcomed this long jail term with high esteem and he further encouraged all detectives to double their efforts in removing all the criminals from the streets to avoid the acts of repeat offenders within our society.

The General has assured all citizens of this Province that the Saps is determined to fight all crimes affecting woman and children without mercy or compromise.

The General has also congratulated members of the community for the undivided support they are giving to the Police on the supply of quality and reliable information and he encourage them to do more.
