MOKOPANE – The Mokopane and Mahwelereng police worked together this past weekend in a crime prevention operation dubbed Operation Bontsha Mohala (Lead by Example) and 55 suspects were arrested for various crimes.

Themba Zondo (20) and Tony Sibande (37) were arrested for theft out of a motor vehicle and R17 500 cash were recovered. They appeared in court on Monday and the case was postponed to 20 March. The men remain in custody.

More arrests followed over the weekend in the Mahwelereng and Mokopane policing areas.

The offences included contravention of the Road Traffic Act, possession of counterfeit goods, public drinking, illegal possession of fire arms, driving under the influence, possession of illegal substances and drugs, possession of stolen property and the rendering of unregistered security services.

The Limpopo police’s Lt Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe says 27 of the 55 suspects have paid admission of guilt fines and the remaining suspects will appear in the Mokopane and Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Courts shortly.

The police request the assistance of the public to come forward if anyone knows the whereabouts of Ghulum Nabi, who might be connected to a murder that took place in Akasia, Mokopane on 12 February. The public can contact Sgt Seema on 082 565 8277.
