Polokwane man allegedly stabs girlfriend, hangs himself

The suspects was found hanging a distance away from the crime scene, early this morning

POLOKWANE – The Police in Seshego are investigating a case of murder, attempted murder and have opened an inquest, after a 41-year-old man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend and her mother last night (Saturday).

It is alleged the suspect went to his girlfriend’s parental home in Seshego Zone 1 at about 21:30, broke down the door and entered the house. He attacked and stabbed the girlfriend, killing her instantly and then stabbed her mother before fleeing the scene, said Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“The deceased lying in pool of blood inside the bedroom with multiple stab wounds. The mother had sustained serious injuries was taken to the hospital for medical treatment,” added Ngoepe.

A police manhunt for the suspect ensued until  he was found hanging  a distance away from where he killed his girlfriend in the early hours of this morning (Sunday).

The girlfriend is identified as 30-year-old Mamma Lebogang Ngobeni and the suspect deceased is identified as Sello Mathagane.

“The motive behind this senseless killing is unknown but domestic violence cannot be ruled out. Police investigations continue,” concluded Ngoepe.
