New police vehicles to assist in the fight against crime in Limpopo
To help curb crime in Limpopo, the South African Police Service has deployed more than 200 new police vehicles to police stations and police officials across the province.
LIMPOPO – These new vehicles, both marked and unmarked, was handed over by Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba at the Makgofe High School sport grounds on Friday as part of the police Imbizo and back-to-school campaign.
Ritavi Police Station was one of the stations to receive the newly deployed police vehicles which will go a long way in curbing the crime that has had the community in its grip since 2014 with six people being brutally killed in the area.
Limpopo Premier Stanley Mathabatha dispatched a contingent of police officers to the area to investigate the crimes committed by two rival criminal gangs last Wednesday.
Provincial Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, said the problem of not having enough police vehicles to address crime in the province is now a thing of the past.
“Although crime in the troubled community of Moletjie has stabilised, police officers will continue to uphold the peace by using the new vehicles to properly monitor the area and respond to complaints and emergencies.
“However, this is not limited to the Moletjie area only as police stations across Limpopo are now equipped to assist the community,” Ngoepe said.
He said one crime is one too many which is why the police will do all in their power to stop crime in Limpopo.
