The initiative is a long-standing project of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Simon Mogale, a technician at the department explained why the initiative is so important. “This vaccination campaign is a yearly initiative by the department to assist in the eradication of rabies. We have noticed that a lot of places in the Polokwane area have a significant amount of bushes where wild animals, that usually spread rabies, are found. This is why we have decided to have this initiative so that instances of rabies in domestic pets can be avoided,” he said.
Mogale says there has been a significant decrease in the number of rabies cases in the city and this is the ideal time for pet owners to vaccinate their pets.
