Limpopo Premier deems Ramaphosa support rumours as ‘malicious’

The premier has never pronounced himself on leadership preferences as far as the coming ANC national conference is concerned

POLOKWANE – Limpopo Premier Stanley Mathabatha has denied rumours that he supports deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa in his endeavour to become the next president of the ANC.

β€œThe premier wishes to correct reports in several media houses, which allegedly reported that the premier will support Cyril Ramaphosa as current ANC president Jacob Zuma’s successor, come the ANC elective conference in December,” Provincial Spokesperson, Kenny Mathivha said.

According to Mathivha, the premier has not chosen sides and he has deemed the rumours malicious and unfounded. β€œMr Mathabatha, in his capacity as both Limpopo Premier and Chairperson of the ANC, has never pronounced himself on leadership preferences as far as the coming ANC national conference is concerned. Any suggestions to the contrary seeks nothing else but to tarnish the image of this principled leader of our people,” Mathivha continued.

The premier has again emphasised that branches of the ANC in South Africa will make such decision when the appropriate time arrives.

β€œIt should again be emphasised that any other report aligning the Premier to this or that grouping of slate is false and should be treated with contempt,” Mathivha concluded.
