Polokwane Super Rugby – Bulls vs Stormers
STAUNCH Vodacom Bulls supporters in and around Polokwane can prepare themselves for a Super Rugby warm-up clash
STAUNCH Vodacom Bulls supporters in and around Polokwane can prepare themselves for a Super Rugby warm-up clash, the likes of which have never been seen before in the city, when the DHL Stormers play against the Vodacom Bulls at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex on February 1.
The event will see the DHL Stormers visiting Limpopo for the first time, with Jean de Villiers and his men hoping to walk away with a victory at the Vodacom Bulls’ second home.
The Vodacom Bulls have been victorious for the past two years in their warm-up matches since the inception of this fixture, which is a partnership between the Polokwane Municipality and the Blue Bulls Company, and is aimed at raising money for a fund for tertiary students in the province.
Polokwane mayor, Freddy Greaver, is convinced that this warm-up match is the ideal platform to raise money for these students who, once qualified, will eventually help grow the province’s economy.
“I see this as a win-win situation for all involved, especially for the tertiary students who are benefitting from this fund and the rugby fans in this province who are starved for quality rugby,” Greaver said.
According to Barend van Graan, CEO of the Blue Bulls Company, the Polokwane fixture is one of the highlights of the pre-season preparations of the Vodacom Bulls. “We are now in our third year of this agreement and we have always felt very much at home in Polokwane. The stadium is world class, the people from Limpopo are very supportive and we usually enjoy outstanding weather conditions on match day. We are honoured that by participating in this match, we can hopefully send many more eager young learners onto further education,” Van Graan said.
