Department employees encouraged to stay active

Many municipal departments host sports days at least once a week, Review set out to find out why they place such great emphasis on keeping their employees active.

POLOKWANE – Spokesperson for the Office of The Premier, Kenny Mathivha, shares with us the importance of active employees in the workplace.
“The departments has a programme called the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), which encourages employees to participate in sports at least once a week. Being physically and socially active also exercises the brain to perform better,” Mathivha explains.
He further says participating in sport increases people’s integrity and that helps department employees to meet their targets and that it allows employees to develop good sportsmanship and cooperation skills, which is very important in any workplace.
“Lack of exercise can lead to poor performance and concentration, so employees need to be more active to do their best at work,” he continues.
Mathivha says The Office of the Premier assists employees by inviting different specialists to advise them on good eating and exercise habits.

He says they play different kinds of sports at different sport venues around the city to promote their EAP.

According to Mathivha, an active lifestyle guarantees good solidarity within a workplace.
