Illegal ammunition bust: SANDF member, accomplice in court

Over 600 rounds of ammunition were found in the possession of the 40-year-old SANDF member and the accomplice

LIMPOPO –  A 40-year-old member of SANDF, who was arrested for illegal possession of ammunition, was granted bail in the Phalaborwa Magistrate court yesterday (Monday). His accomplice (44) was remanded in custody, says the police.

Accordingf to a stament issued by Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, on 14 January 2017, the Police in Phalaborwa together with the National intervention Unit, arrested the 44-year-old Senegalese national and the SANDF member for illegal possession of ammunition.

“According to information, this is after the first suspect was seen carrying a bag at Spekboom Street in Phalaborwa. Police members requested to search him and during the search, 663 rounds of ammunition were found. His partner who was arrested the same day was found to be in possession of 17 rounds of ammunition for a 9mm pistol,” said Mojapelo.

The 40-year-old suspect was granted R1 000 bail and is set to reappear before the court on 10 March. The accomplice was remanded in custody until 23 January for a formal bail application.

Police investigations are continuing, he concluded.
