N1 North now open to traffic

Police were called in to disperse a group of protesters who blockaded the road North of Louis Trichardt this morning, says the police.

LIMPOPO – According to a statement issued by Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the Tshirolwe village community are demanding of the construction of a tar road in their area.

“Passing motorists were pelted with stones and the police were called in to disperse the crowd and clear the road. The N1 road is now open to traffic,” he said.

Meanwhile the police are investigating cases of Public Violence and Arson after a local primarily school, Water Affairs offices and the Post Office were torched by unknown people in Nthabalala village in the Tshitale area.

“The said properties were partly damaged. According to the information, the protesters are also demanding the construction of a tar road in their area,” added Mojapelo.

Currently, the road leading to Mashamba, Tshitale-Muila gravel road and Lambani-Muila road have been blockaded and are not accessible. The public order police (POP), uniform members and The Makhado Cluster First Responder team have been deployed to monitor the area.

No arrests have been made so far but police investigations continue, he concluded.
