Smuggling operation intercepted by Limpopo SAPS Commissioner

The suspected stolen vehicle was semi-submerged in the Limpopo River, ssys the police

LIMPOPO – Operation Festive Season led by Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, had another success after several suspects were intercepted while attempting to smuggle a vehicle across the Limpopo River, says the police.

The operation was conducted in Musina and Beitbridge this morning (Friday), according to Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

“After visiting the roadblock in the area and conducting a walkabout at the adjacent mall, the General took a SAPS helicopter to patrol the area,” said Mojapelo.

He added  while patrolling he noticed and intercepted the smuggling of a suspected stolen vehicle, a grey Toyota Double Cab,  from South Africa to Zimbabwe through the Limpopo River.

“The vehicle was semi-submerged in the water and the suspects looked as though they were about to make use of five donkeys to pull it out towards the bank on the Zimbabwean side. Upon noticing the police, the suspects fled into Zimbabwe leaving the vehicle in the water,” Mojapelo explained.

“It took the police four hours to remove the vehicle from the water.”

“Investigation conducted by the VIS indicate the vehicle was reported stolen earlier this month from Durban Central in KZN, concluded Mojapelo.
