LIC cricketers out bowl Gauteng

The Limpopo Impala Cricket (LIC) rural cricket team kept up their good form of late with yet another victory at the Nirvana Cricket Oval on Saturday.

POLOKWANE – Facing the Impalas was the team from Gauteng in the Cricket South Africa Rural League match which also served as a qualifying match for the South African Rural League Tournament which will be held in Stellenbosch next year.

Winning the Gauteng visitors by 12 runs, the Impalas have now set their sights on their next home game against the Free State.

The Gauteng match on Saturday is the last match for this year and the Impalas will face Free State on 14 January.

The team from Gauteng elected to field first after winning the toss and claimed two early wickets within the first five overs of the match.

After that, the Limpopo batsmen got stuck in to set the visitors a target of 163 runs. The Impalas were bowled out in 45,1 overs.

The batsmen who initially set the tone are Kgoshi Leopeng (30 runs) and Morné Venter (23 runs) with their 50-run partnership.

It was Katlego Sempe next who came in and made 48 runs, unfortunately he ran out of batting partners as they fell by the wayside from Gauteng’s bowling and fielding so he did not manage to make a half century.

The other Impalas batsmen who contributed runs are Ben Skade with 17 runs and Petri de Kock who posted 16 runs.

The Impala bowlers came out to field and did a sterling job to limit Gauteng down to just 151 runs, with all their batsmen out. It took the Impalas 42,1 overs to topple the players from Gauteng.

The bowler of the day for the Impalas was Ruann Willemse who claimed four wickets for 20 runs in nine overs. He kept up the pressure with five maiden overs.

The other Impala bowlers who claimed the rest of the Gauteng scalps were Fridaush Baja (two wickets in 8,1 overs for 35 runs), Petri de Kock (two wickets in 10 overs for 37 runs), and Ben Skade (one wicket in 10 overs for 21 runs, including one maiden over).
