Old Mutual ploughs back into community

"We are very fortunate for what Old Mutual has done for us," said school principal, Mosengwa Chuma.

POLOKWANE – According to Old Mutual Seshego Sales Branch Manager, Vuledzani Mashie, learners need to be motivated.

They therefore donated 20 pairs of school shoes to learners from Kanana Primary School in Moletsi-Kanana village last week.

“We have seen that most learners go to school without proper school shoes. It’s our duty to help where we can. We decided to distribute shoes to the needy as a part of ploughing back to the community we serve.

“We want to invest in the education of the youth and aim to help, especially in impoverished areas. We want to put a smile back on their faces,”  Mashie said.

“When I visited the school, I realised this was the oldest school in the area and had dilapidated buildings, and when I looked at the learners most of them were going to school without proper uniforms. So I requested the principal to identify 20 learners who will benefit from a donation of school shoes. We thought that we should assist the needy, who knows, we may be assisting the next CEO of Old Mutual. We also have a community project whereby we donated R20 000 towards community projects,” he said.

Kanana Primary School Principal, Mosengwa Chuma, thanked Old Mutual for their contribution.

“We are very fortunate for what Old Mutual has done for us. It is touching because these learners are from poverty-stricken families. This means a lot to the school, we have a good relationship with Old Mutual. The learners were in need of school shoes, it will help them to come to school with full uniforms. We really wish there are companies out there to help where they can, and not only to Kanana Primary School,” said Chuma.
