Get ready for biggest event in Polokwane | Mapungubwe Arts Festival

POLOKWANE – It is almost that time of the year again where Polokwane truly becomes the City of Stars from 1 to 17 December as entertainment royalty visits the city for the Mapungubwe Arts Festival.

• The Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club Gala Dinner at the Polokwane Royal Hotel kicks off the festivities on Thursday followed by the Miss Sapa Yopa pageant at Sun Meropa’s Jembe Tavern on Friday.

• On Saturday the Polokwane Show Grounds will come alive at the Sapa Yopa Rally with the after party following on Sunday at Polokwane Shisanyama (Waterland).

• Devine Dance Crew will host the first annual Dance Extravaganza in Mankweng Community hall on Thursday with performances by Sido and Manana, Lekker Sweet, Muzo Brothers, Mexican Boys, Limited Dance Crew, and Saxophone. R320 will get you a ticket.

• The Limpopo Premier and Exco will meet the elderly at Jack Botes Hall on Monday for the Mapungubwe Lecture.

• On Friday, 9 December, the Cultural Carnival will start at SABC where it will carry on to Jack Botes Hall for the Arts Awards: Legend in Arts and Culture. The Cultural Pageant and Fashion Show is set to take place in Nwa-Mitwa at Valoyi Cultural Village in Tzaneen on Friday as well.

• On Saturday, 10 December a theatre/drama showcase will light up Jack Botes Hall. A Bush Braai will help alleviate the hunger at the Polokwane Rugby Fields and the Mapungubwe Marathon and Pop-up Gym at Seshego Stadium tickets will round off the day’s activities. Tickets for the Mapungubwe Marathon and Pop-up Gym are R40.

• Sunday, 11 December sees another theatre/drama showcase at Jack Botes Hall. The Choral Festival at Ha-Masia Cathedral in Vhembe district on the day is also set to be a blast.

• For those who love food and poetry, the Indigenous Culinary Festival and Poetry Night at Jack Botes Hall on 12 December is just the thing. Department of Sport, Arts and Culture MEC, Onicca Moloi will cook up a storm alongside chef Siba Motonga from the Food Network.

• An Arts and Craft Exhibition will see the screening of a documentary about Kings of Limpopo, who waged anti-colonial wars and the story of other struggle stalwarts at Ster-Kinekor Mall of the North.

• On 14 December the Childrens Day cultural will take place in Lephalale followed by an Arts and Craft Exhibition film and workshop. R100 will get you a ticket. A Comedy Night at Jack Botes Hall is set to leave you in stitches on the day.

• Another Arts and Craft Exhibition and Comedy Night at Ngoako Ramahlodi Sport complex follows on 15 December where Mashabela Galane, Salesman, Skhumba, Thabang ER, Noko, and many other comedians will keep you entertained. Tickets cost R100.

• 16 December marks the Day of Reconciliation which will be celebrated with an Arts and Craft Exhibition and a Major League Gardens Social Festival at the Polokwane Cricket Club. Tickets cost R300.

• The Mapungubwe Arts Festival main event will take place at the Polokwane Cricket Club on 17 December with an Outdoor Festival and an Arts and Craft Exhibition where international acts Angelique Kidjo and Encore will rock the stage along with other internationally-acclaimed acts such as Thandiswa Mazwai. Tickets cost R200.

• If you are travelling to Ga-Matlala on 25 December, pop in at Tibane Stadium for the Matlala Festival with an entertainment line-up including the likes of Black Motion, Vinny da Vinci, Mono T, Prince Kaybee, Tuks Senganag, the most trusted DJ Q-Scotch, and many more. Normal tickets cost R80, Golden tickets R150, and VIP tickets R250.
